Although technologies of the machines used at our waste facilities have emproved vastly over the years as far as sorting and so forth, recycling is still as important as it ever was. Space for landfills is still such a difficulty to come by and even though the methods to maximize the lifespans of the current sites are very good we still are working hard each day to improve the methods.
We see it all the time driving around the different towns on trash days – all the houses have trash cans out on the sidewalk, but only 50-60% have their recycling bins as well (this obviously varies by town). This means that about 50% of the recyclable material from residential trash pick up could be headed toward the landfill – unless a sorting machine picks it out and puts it in its proper place which is not a guarantee.
When you throw something away, you may not think about what happens to it after it leaves your trash can – but its a serious issue and something to think about. Make sure that items that are recyclable go into your recycling bin. Our dump, where we bring our dumpsters has really high tech machines that seperate the items by material based on weight so you can rest assured that when you rent a dumpster all your items will be properly recycled, unfortunately we may not be able to say the same for your household waste.
