Well I have to say, dumpsters certainly do carry a bit of a bad Rap. As part of our daily/weekly tasks of running the business, we do internet seaches on the word “dumpster” – regular searchs, image searchs, news searches and most of the news articles are of a rather negative nature when they contain the word “dumpster”, typically speaking. I’m not always sure exactly what I am looking for, but will admit that I often do find interesting information, often marketing information but sometime other helpful pieces of information that I can pass on the our customers.
I just read and article put out by the BBB that talked about identity theft. Anyone that has experienced this will tell you what a nightmare it is! This article talks about how 56% of identity theft actually comes from PAPER – not internet and phone transactions like most people would assume! People think that no one would go through their garbage, but in all actuality, that is not true. The papers that you throw away that have account numbers, your name, address, date of birth, ss# – really anything that someone can use to pretend that they are you should be shredded no matter who you are or where you live. Dumpster diving is on the rise and its not just homeless people looking for food or useful items, lots of times these people are looking for your personal information to commit identity theft crimes.
Obviously, this is going to be less of an issue with the type of dumpster that we rent out – which usually are delivered to your property for a short period of time and then immediately brought to the waste facility when picked up. But, you never know who might notice the dumpster in your driveway. Make sure if you are putting personal information or old papers in the dumpster that you either cut, rip or shred them. Time’s are definitely changing….
