We get this question quite often when having to call customers and tell them that they owe a balance for an overage. Generally speaking, the weight limits we set for the included cost of our rentals are pretty generous. The average person, throwing regular old household items in a 10 your dumpster will not usually go over 3000 lbs. When we get calls for orders we always ask what type of stuff the customer is going to be throwing in the dumpster – its not that we are nosey, but we like to be able to give you an idea of whether we think you might end up with an overage. On the same token, if you tell us what you have to throw out and the approximate amount and ask for a 20 yard dumpster, we will tell you that we don’t think you need all that space too if that is our opinion.
You need to think about the density and the weight of the items that you want to dispose of. For example, plaster is really heavy and a dumpster that is full of mostly plaster will definitely go over weight. Shingles from your roof are really heavy too and we like to give prices for roofing jobs based on the number of “square” and how many layers are going to be stripped off – your roofing contractor can provide you with this information. This way, no one is surprised when the dump ticket is printed out!
