Recycling Tidbit

Did you know that only a little over 50% of aluminums cans, on average actually get recycled?  I was really surprised that this number was so low.  After reading a short article, we learned that the number was about 54% in 2008 up from 2007.  The all time high was actually in 2000 at only 62%!

Sometimes we as consumers don’t think about the impact of the products that we consume.  Something as average as a can of soda – the aluminum that is used to make the cans is actually an extremely sustainable material that after being used and then recycled can be back on the store shelf as a new can in as little as 60 days.  Its interesting to learn these little facts and hopefully will make you think twice about tossing a can into the trash the next time you are not close to a recycling bin.  By recycling aluminum, energy is conserved, resources are saved, consumer and production waste is minimized as well as cutting down on carbon emissions and virgin material usage.

Just a little food for thought icon smile Recycling Tidbit
